Varsity II Coaches

Michael Willis

Varsity II Head Coach

Coach Willis attended Bishop O’Connell High School (’06) where he played four years Varsity hockey and two years of lacrosse.  He graduated from the University of Maryland in 2011, where he played three seasons of hockey.  His Tri-city Eagles Midget hockey team advanced to play in the regional finals twice and his Bantam Washington Little Capitals team advanced to play in the national tournament.  He has been a player on many other club teams that have won a CBHL title and often went undefeated.  Coach Willis’ father has also coached hockey for over ten years. This is Coach Willis’ fifth year as the head Varsity II coach.

Ford Lands ('10)

Varsity I and II Assistant Coach

Coach Lands was born and raised in the Washington DC area and began playing hockey when he was 5 years old. A 2010 graduate of Gonzaga College High School, Lands played four years of hockey for the Eagles and was Captain of Gonzaga's WCAC Championship team his senior year. Lands also played for the Washington Jr. Capitals. He graduated from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire with a degree in biology. Lands began coaching at Gonzaga in 2014.

Brent Wegner

Varsity II Assistant Coach

Coach Wegner is in his first year with the Gonzaga ice hockey program.  He played youth hockey in North Bay, Ontario and Colorado Springs, Colorado until the Air Force transferred his father to Biloxi Mississippi where ice hockey was a foreign sport in the late 1960s.   Brent was captain of the Fairfax High School varsity soccer team in his junior and senior years and  played for the US Air Force Academy soccer team his freshman year.  Coach Wegner has played recreational hockey for the past 30 years in the DC area.
